SFCS

San Francisco Civic Symphony

The San Francisco Civic Symphony was founded in 1931 by San Francisco Philanthropist Mrs. Sigmund Stern. Originally rehearsals were held in her home. As membership grew, Mrs. Stern moved the organization to the newly created San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department. The orchestra is the oldest community orchestra on the West Coast. We exist as a volunteer ensemble to provide committed amateur musicians in the community an opportunity to study and perform a diverse repertoire of classical music. We typically perform four concerts each season, which are provided free to the community.
